Shirt Colours

I did not like the colour of the shirt I thought it was too bright for a rock magazine, so I decided to put a layer on it as if wanting to colour pop. But instead of erasing the low saturation, I changed the hue and the brightness to create different coloured shirts. I then went to places where there were people in the age group of my target audience and asked them which colour they liked best and made a tally chart.

Blue

Original

Green/Yellow

Pinky/Blue
Purple/Yellow

Here are the results:

The majority of my audience preferred the blue shirt so I will change the shirt on the front cover to blue. This will also allow me to base a new, better house style to my magazine.

Front Cover Image - Audience Research

I showed 30 people in my age range which of 3 images would suit best as a front cover to a Rock Music Magazine. Here are the results:

1.        9                                 2.       21                                 3.        4

1) The shot was intended to be mocking of the pop culture, but most of the audience say that it was too "unrocky".

2) The second image was the majorities favourite. "Good stern looks"/"Empty faces"/"Typical of rock genre".

3) Main criticism: "Too smiley".

Front cover practice

Practiced editing out the background by using the same colour on the checked shirt.

Audience Profile

This is Helen Bargmann.
She is 18 year's old. She loves chilling with friends but it is difficult because she is currently in her last year at A-level in the sixth form, it is a very stressful time and so she needs to blow off steam by listening to music. This includes a variety of genres as well as sub-genres such as, Rock and it's hybrids - Alternative Rock, Punk Rock and Classic Rock.
Although times are tough she has a part time job and so can afford to pay a monthly price of under £5 to purchase music magazines.

The title of my magazine -revealed!

I had a short of list of names I was contemplating to use for my magazine. They were:

  • Rage
  • Strictly Punk
  • Distort
  • Discord
  • Crank
  • Forsaken

These are my results:

Crank and Rock Oasis were very close to one another. Not only did I choose to go with the majority but as I am not yet certain whether I am going into the Punk or Rock genre, Crank seems most neutral. Whereas Rock Oasis seems very well.. Rock.
